Sa mère, Meda, vie désormais en Allemagne avec ses trois demi-frères. Elle est partie alors qu'il n'avait que 8 ans.
Il a aussi deux autres demi-frères, Harlan et Zalman, et une grande soeur, Taryn, qui a sortie sa ligne de vêtement : Vanitas.
Son arrière grand-père, Max Band, était un grand artiste peintre qui connaissait Pablo Picasso.

Meilleurs amis : Jethro Rothe-Kushel, qui travaille lui aussi dans le cinéma, et Aaron Kamin, avec qui il a travaillé ces dernières années.

Instruments : Il joue de la guitare, du piano, du saxophone (par l'insistance de son père) et un peu de batterie.

- La dernière partie a été écrite par Alex après avoir terminé l'écriture de "Camino Palmero" avec Aaron.
- Il faut aussi savoir que cette version vous ne pouvez l'entendre que sur scène. En effet Alex ne chante la version longue qu'en concert.
- D'ailleurs quand il joue de la guitarre sur scène c'est le plus souvent, si ce n'est pas tout le temps, que sa tombe sur cette chanson.

- Cette chanson n'a pas été écrite par Alex, contrairement à ce que certain peuvent croire, mais par Chad Kroeger, le chanteur et leader du groupe Nickelback.

- Cette chanson a été enregistrée en duo avec Santana, sur deux versions : l'une avec la voix de Chad et l'autre avec celle d'Alex.

- La version retenue sur l'album de Santana et celle avce la voix de Chad, mais il est vrai que la version la plus entendue et qui a été classée dans les hits est celle avec la voix d'Alex. Le clip a d'ailleurs été tourné avec Alex et non avec Chad.
